DARKSIDERS, PART IV
Darth Desolous and the Army of Desolation
Darth Desolous and the Army of Desolation
There was a time when Dion Sazon was a respected member of the Jedi Order. Those days have long since been forgotten, tainted now by the memory of Darth Desolous.
Born on Utapau, Dion Sazon was a formidable warrior among his people, elevated by his prowess in the Force. His talents soon caught the attention of the Jedi Order, who brought Sazon to Coruscant to train as a Jedi Knight. In time, Sazon had become a renown Jedi Guardian in the Order and was even named Battlemaster of the Jedi Order, instructing prospective Jedi in lightsaber combat.
Over time however, Sazon began to crave more power; a relic of his lust for battle during his warrior days. Delving into the Jedi Archives, he educated himself on the Sith and the dark side of the force, which evoked disapproval from his peers. When Sazon refused to cease his studies at the High Council's behest, he was expelled from the Order.
Enraged by this, Sazon vowed revenge. Taking on the name Darth Desolous, he declared himself Dark Lord of the Sith and set out to build his army. As the Sith cults were scattered following the collapse of their Empire some centuries prior, Desolous instead focused on raising an army of Pau'an warriors. As Desolous was still a respected figure on Utapau, it was easy enough for him to gain his fair share of followers.
In 3442 BBY, the army of Darth Desolous made their assault across the galaxy, slaughtering countless Jedi. Forging a path through the Outer Rim Territories, Desolous laid claim to many worlds along the Rimma Trade Route, from Utapau to Sluis Van. In time, he was able to rally a number of Sith cults under his banner, intent on building a new Sith Empire.
However, with each victory, Desolous grew more and more arrogant of his abilities. Taking advantage of his overconfidence, the Jedi set up a trap for him on Yaga Minor and lured him into a disadvantageous position. A massive Jedi fleet emerged from hyperspace, preventing Desolous and his forces from retreating, and the Dark Lord's army was soon defeated.
The last man standing, Desolous pitted himself against all twelve members of the Jedi Council, who had arrived with the fleet to confront their former peer. Although he was able to slay several of the Jedi Masters, including Grand Master Axon Roden, Desolous was soon brought to his knees by the remaining Masters. When they offered him a chance to redeem himself, Desolous simply spat at them, forcing them to deliver the killing blow.
In the years following his death, Darth Desolous' deeds shadowed his past and the name of Dion Sazon was all but struck from history. Utapau would take several years to recuperate from the Dark Lord's reign, as did any other world affected by his terror. The Jedi Order similarly took some time to recover, having lost two thousand Knights to Desolous' army. Roden's successor, the peaceful Niira Baelar, thought herself unsuitable for leading the Order, having been the one to strike down Desolous. Despite her misgivings, the Iktotchi Jedi Seer remained Grand Master for the next two decades.
At Master Baelar's guidance, Darth Desolous was immortalized as a simulation in the Jedi Trials, testing Padawans to control their raw emotions -- something which Dion Sazon had failed to due many years ago.

The woman who would become known as Darth Phobos was born on Korriban during the intermediate period between the fall of the Sith Empire and the rise of Darth Ruin. At an early age, she lost her parents to the treacherous sands, and was only spared from a similar fate when a wandering Sith hermit took an interest in her and decided to take her in under his wing.
The young Theelin quickly grew in power. Before long, she had surpassed her master and taken on the name Darth Phobos. Many a Sith fell to this strange woman and it was not long before a coalition was formed against her. While Phobos was traveling to the Valley of the Dark Lords in her ship, her enemies shot her down and her vessel crashed near the tomb of Ajunta Pall. While her rivals believed her dead, Phobos had in fact survived the attempt on her life and vowed revenge.
Over the course of several decades, Darth Phobos amassed a cult to her name and dispatched these fanatics across the galaxy, striking Sith and Jedi alike. Realizing that Phobos had returned, the Sith formed a temporary alliance with the Jedi to strike back at her. Tracking her down to a barren world in the Esstran sector, the united forces confronted Darth Phobos and finally vanquished the Theelin Sith Lord.
Despite her death, Phobos' cult would continue to operate for several decades. When Darth Ruin and his faction of Sith arose, many of Phobos' fanatics were folded into the new Sith Empire.
