The Transformers: Redux, Issue 6: War of Two Worlds, Chapter Six

 Date: 5/20/2012

PRIME TARGET, PART TWO

(On Earth, Optimus Prime is taking a nighttime drive)

WHEELJACK: (over comm) So, uh, Optimus... are you still made about--?

OPTIMUS PRIME: No, Wheeljack. I understand there wasn't much you could do.

WHEELJACK: So... what now?

OPTIMUS PRIME: Right now we have to find parts to repair Kup's ship. Then we might be able to use it against the Decepticons' ship.

WHEELJACK: And just where are we going to find ship parts?

OPTIMUS PRIME: You'll see...

(At the base, the Autobots stare at an image of Swindle)

IRONHIDE: You. Have got. To be. JOKING!

PROWL: Ironhide, you know I rarely joke, and when I do, it's usually a sarcastic remark. Besides, Swindle is the only merchant I know for having easily installed repairs. Don't worry, though. I know someone else who can deal with him...

(On the Nemesis)

STARSCREAM: Well, now that Bludgeon and his friends are gone... mind telling me how the Autobots manage to capture you?

BARRICADE: Well, uh--

LUGNUT: If Barricade hadn't stopped me from using my Punch... we wouldn't have been captured!

BARRICADE: Better than getting killed by your Punch!

LUGNUT: I'd rather do that than upset Lord Megatron's will!

BARRICADE: Oh, please. Unlike you, Lugnut, I'm not die-hard Megatron fan like you!

LUGNUT: You dare?!

BARRICADE: You betcha, wideload.

(They have a slap fight while Starscream facepalms)

LUGNUT: Traitor!

BARRICADE: Fanboy!

LUGNUT: Disloyalist!

BARRICADE: That's not even a word!

LUGNUT: SILENCE!

STARSCREAM: Oh, woe is me...

BARRICADE: Fat bot!

LUGNUT: Oi!

(Back on Earth)

OPTIMUS PRIME: Never noticed how quiet Earth was at night... it is quite peaceful... though it still gives me an uneasy feeling.

(Nearby, four Decepticon pods crash-land, deploying the four Stunticons)

STRAXUS: (over comm) Right then... you all know your mission.

BREAKDOWN: Yes, Lord Straxus.

STRAXUS: Good. Begin scanning Earth forms... then thou shalt commence thy hunt!

(The Stunticons scan Earth modes and drive out)

BREAKDOWN: Stunticons, roll out!

WILDRIDER: Heh-heh-heh!

(On Cybertron)

ULTRA MAGNUS: I have to talk with who?!

JETFIRE: Swindle. Prowl says Kup's team needs parts to repair their ship.

ULTRA MAGNUS: What happened to it?

JETFIRE: Either the 'Cons blew it, or someone sabotaged it.

ULTRA MAGNUS: Wait... when you say 'Cons...

JETFIRE: Oh, yeah, 'bout that. After the ship blew up, Bludgeon and his Mayhem Squad showed up and managed to free the 'Cons Prime and his bots captured.

(Beat)

ULTRA MAGNUS: Book me a table at Maccadam's... Swindle and I are going to have a long talk.

(Later, at Maccadam's)

SWINDLE: So, I hear you need a good deal on ship parts.

ULTRA MAGNUS: Yes... but only if it's cheap.

SWINDLE: No problem! What do ya' need? Extra firepower? Gravity engines? You name it!

ULTRA MAGNUS: I guess it's best to show you the damage...

(He shows Swindle a holo of Kup's ship)

SWINDLE: Gee, um, that type of damage would require some... expensive stuff....

ULTRA MAGNUS: Name the price.

SWINDLE: But you said--

ULTRA MAGNUS: Forget what I said. Just name your price!

SWINDLE: Well, seeing as you're desperate, I suppose six hundred thousand credits will do.

ULTRA MAGNUS: Deal.

(Back on Earth, Optimus Prime hears the Stunticons' engines as they drive up behind him)

OPTIMUS PRIME: What the-? Hmm... (He brakes and turns around) Humans, I have heard of how some of you enjoy "tailgating" or following others. Thus, I suggest that you turn around now.

BREAKDOWN: Did you call us humans? You're sorely mistaken... (they transform) we're definitely not humans!

OPTIMUS PRIME: Wait a minute! Jazz? Sideswipe? Is that you?

BREAKDOWN: Close enough... but not cy-gar! (He uses a device to knock Optimus out) Heh, that was easy. C'mon, let's take him away!

(Autobot Base)

PROWL: Guys, we have a problem. I've lost Prime's signal.

BUMBLEBEE: Uh oh...

RATCHET: This is bad.

IRONHIDE: So what are we gonna do?

BUMBLEBEE: Isn't it obvious?! We have to find him!

SPRINGER: It might not be that easy, Bumblebee. The Decepticons are surely behind this. They might be trying to bait us by capturing Prime.

BUMBLEBEE: So, what? We're just gonna sit here and do nothing?

SPRINGER: Not exactly... I have something in mind.

(Cybertron, Lockdown meets with Minion)

LOCKDOWN: So... you want me to find your glorious leader?

MINION: Indeed. I've heard that you've got yourself quite a reputation, Lockdown.

LOCKDOWN: Eh. I just do it for a living.

MINION: Right then... According to our sources, Lord Megatron vanished during the Battle of Helex. At the moment, Helex is currently blockaded by Autobot forces.

LOCKDOWN: I can get through them.

MINION: Good.

LOCKDOWN: Will that be all?

MINION: Ur, yes. Do you require any assistance?

LOCKDOWN: I never do.

MINION: Very well.

(Lockdown leaves)

MINION: He'll never succeed.

???: He's not supposed to.

MINION: True... very true.

(Back on Earth)

BREAKDOWN: Dead End, do you have the spark extractor?

DEAD END: Yes.

BREAKDOWN: Drag Strip, the stun gun?

DRAG STRIP: Right here.

BREAKDOWN: Good. Well, my friends... I do believe... it's extracting time!

PRIME TARGET, PART ONE

(On Earth, the Autobots clash with the Decepticons)

IRONHIDE: Blast it, where did these 'Cons come from? How did they find us?!

KUP: They probably tracked down Barricade and Lugnut's signal!

OPTIMUS PRIME: I thought I told Wheeljack to turn them off!

WHEELJACK: Wait... you said to turn their signals off?

OPTIMUS PRIME: Yes. And did you?

WHEELJACK: Umm... I thought you meant those tracking devices they sometimes carry.

(Blurr facepalms)

OPTIMUS PRIME: *sigh* Never mind. Just go back inside and get Prowl and Bumblebee out here!

(Needlenose gets blasted)

NEEDLENOSE: WAUGH!

BLUDGEON: Well then, with the Autobots distracted... I can sneak into their base!

SPRINGER: Not so fast...

BLUDGEON: Well, if it isn't Springer. I've heard much about you. Weren't you one of those Wreckers?

SPRINGER: Yes, Bludgeon... and I've heard of you as well.

BLUDGEON: Ah, yes. My killing of Yoketron has made myself... notorious. And I take it that you're here for revenge. Well then... that's just fine by me!

(Bludgeon deploys his blades and clashes with a very angry Springer)

(Iacon, Cybertron. Ultra Magnus and Nightbeat are investigating the brutal murder of a bot)

ULTRA MAGNUS: This is bad.

NIGHTBEAT: Well, sir, considering this bot's more dead than a post... Yeah, I'd say this is bad.

ULTRA MAGNUS: Did you know him?

NIGHTBEAT: Yeah, his name was Rocky. He used to work at Maccadam's Oil House until he fell into a bad crowd -- a Decepticon crowd. According to sources I've gathered, he may have passed valuable info to them. He's been said to have spoken with Straxus. This doesn't explain why they killed him, though... if it was them who killed him.

ULTRA MAGNUS: Well, thanks for investigating, Nightbeat. Let me know if you find more.

(Polyhex; Hot Rod, Jazz, Mirage, and Sideswipe have been taken captive)

STRAXUS: I am... satisfied. Here I have before me four Autobots, who shall all be part of my great plan that will topple the Autobots from within. I don't mean to boast, but I must say, I have done a particularly good job.

MIRAGE: I don't know what you're up to... but we'll never be part of your schemes!

STRAXUS: I'm afraid you have no choice... Thrust, if you please...

SIDESWIPE: Oh, crud.

(Thrust uses a Spark Extractor to remove his spark)

STRAXUS: Now, Dirge... the replacement spark.

(Dirge places the new spark in Sideswipe's body, which becomes the Stunticon Breakdown)

BREAKDOWN: Gaah!

STRAXUS: Now then, do you know your name.

BREAKDOWN: B-Breakdown... my name's Breakdown.

(Back on Earth, a Destructor hovers over the battlefield)

IRONHIDE: I don't think they're givin' up, Prime.

OPTIMUS PRIME: It's obvious why. They're not leaving until their "friends" are freed.

IRONHIDE: And until we're all dead.

(Back with Bludgeon and Springer)

BLUDGEON: It's quite fitting. Yoketron always said that you were one of his best students. It's only fair that you join him in the AllSpark. (He raises his blade but is interrupted by a shadow falling over them) Huh?

OPTIMUS PRIME: What in the world?

(The Destructor lands and sets its sights on Optimus)

DESTRUCTOR: Grrr... Target in range.

OPTIMUS PRIME: What the-?

(The Destructor unloads its arsenal on him. They duke it out, with Optimus eventually blasting a hole in its chest, exposing its spark. As Optimus tries to pull it out, the Destructor explodes)

WHEELJACK: Uh... that was great and all, but uh... we have a problem.

(On the Nemesis)

STARSCREAM: Well, Minion... it seems Bludgeon's squad was successful in freeing our comrades. What's our next plan?

MINION: Well, Starscream, while Straxus' infiltration plot is proceeding... I thought it'd be best... to continue our search for our leader.

STARSCREAM: And, er, how do you propose we do that?

MINION: Oh... (He shows a hologram of Lockdown) I think I have someone in mind.

THIEVES IN THE NIGHT

(Autobot HQ, Cybertron)

MIRAGE: Aw, don't tell me you bots chickened out!

SIDESWIPE: We didn't have much choice, Mirage! It was either that or get crushed by those things!

MIRAGE: Oh, c'mon. They're no bigger than two Bulkheads.

SIDESWIPE: They're a lot stronger than two Bulkheads. And scarier.

MIRAGE: Ah, gimmie a break... they can't possibly be that bad!

(As he says this, we see the Destructors making their way towards Earth...)

(On Earth)

WHEELJACK: Anything, 'Bee?

BUMBLEBEE: Yup, I see them. (Kup's ship is on approach) Kinda' weird, though. You'd think Starscream would've spotted them...

WHEELJACK: Eh, they probably just got lucky. I mean, I highly doubt that Starscream stares t his computer all day for Autobot ships... right?

IRONHIDE: Why are you asking me?

(Kup's ship touches down and his team disembarks)

OPTIMUS PRIME: Welcome to Earth, Team Magnus. I'm glad you didn't run into any trouble.

KUP: You should know us by now, Prime. We don't find trouble; trouble finds us.

OPTIMUS PRIME: Right. We've got the 'Cons all tied up and ready for you.

KUP: Great. We'll get them onboard as soon as--

(Kup's ship blows up)

KUP: Blast! I just had that ship waxed! Blurr, go see if it can be repaired!

BLURR: Right!

WHEELJACK: Um... no offense... but that really doesn't look repairable.

(On the Nemesis, Starscream witnesses the event)

STARSCREAM: My, my, Bludgeon's really outdone himself... That was Bludgeon who did that, right? (Soundwave doesn't answer him) No matter. As long as the Autobots are distracted, we can now make our move. Knock Out?

KNOCK OUT: Yes, sir?

STARSCREAM: Take a squad of Vehicons to Earth... and ensure that Bludgeon and his bots succeed!

(On Cybertron, Sideswipe and Mirage are standing guard. Throughout their conversation, a Destructor spies on them)

SIDESWIPE: So... have you seen those new BT-16s?

MIRAGE: What?

SIDESWIPE: You know... BT-16s!

MIRAGE: I have no idea what that is.

SIDESWIPE: It's from Star Wars!

MIRAGE: Oh, that Earth movie? I couldn't get past the first one.

SIDESWIPE: Which first one? The original or The Phantom Menace?

MIRAGE: Uh... isn't there only one first?

SIDESWIPE: No, see, the guy who made them released the fourth movie first!

MIRAGE: Why'd he do that?

SIDESWIPE: I dunno. Guess he just felt like it was the right way to do it...

MIRAGE: Well, that still doesn't--

(The two of them are taken out by the Destructor, who captures them)

DESTRUCTOR: Lord Governor, I have captured Autobots #04 and 07.

(At Darkmount)

STRAXUS: Ah, perfect work, my friend... Destructor Beta, is your progress proceeding well?

DESTRUCTOR BETA: Yes, my lord.

STRAXUS: Excellent. Everything is proceeding as planned.

(Earth)

KUP: Seriously, how in the AllSpark did this happen?

WHEELJACK: Maybe someone on board sabotaged it?

KUP: Unlikely. I trust all of my crew. I know they'd never do anything like this.

OPTIMUS PRIME: Has anyone else been on your ship before?

KUP: Well, I believe Sideswipe's been with us... and Longarm after we freed him from Chaar... and Mirage...

IRONHIDE: Oh, thank spark Cliffjumper isn't here. He's always claiming that Mirage's a spy.

ARCEE: Tell me about it.

IRONHIDE: Ah, you know him too, huh?

ARCEE: Yup. He also once confused a rock formation for a Decepticon.

IRONHIDE: Seriously?

(Nearby, Bludgeon's team is spying on them when Knock Out drives up)

KNOCK OUT: Ah, hello, Bludgeon. Have our friends been freed yet?

BLUDGEON: Negative, Knock Out. The Autobots have been distracted, but they're still alert about any presence of ours.

KNOCK OUT: I see. Any ideas?

BLUDGEON: Well, now that you're here... I believe we can create another diversion.

(Autobot Base)

BARRICADE: What's going on? What was that explosion I heard?

PROWL: None of your business. 'Bee, what is going on?

BUMBLEBEE: Hard to say, Prowl. Looks like Kup's ship blew up. Wonder how that happened...

PROWL: Whatever caused it, it makes me uneasy... very uneasy.

(Outside)

OPTIMUS PRIME: Can you fix it, Wheeljack?

WHEELJACK: Doubtful. If only we had taken Grapple along.

(The Decepticons start blasting at them)

WHEELJACK: Whoa!

BLUDGEON: Salutations, Autobots... and farewell!

(Back on Cybertron, two Autobots are chasing a Decepticon)

HOT ROD: Get back here, you turbo-revvin' punk! Sure is persistent, isn't he?

JAZZ: Yup. Sure is making me mad...

SLICK: Blast! A dead end!

JAZZ: Might as well give up, Slick... we've got ya' cornered!

SLICK: That's what you think.

JAZZ: We don't think, we... know...

(A Destructor takes them out)

DESTRUCTOR: Master, Autobots #6 and 78 have been captured.

(Back at Darkmount)

STRAXUS: Very nice work! I must say, you've all been very helpful. Now, it's up to you, Destructor-Gamma, to find our last target... OPTIMUS PRIME! Then, Project: Infiltration will be complete!

 Date: 5/13/2012

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE, PART THREE

(Opens with Lugnut unleashing missiles on Ironhide)

LUGNUT: For the glory of the Decepticons!

IRONHIDE: Two can play at the big explosions game... (He shoots at Lugnut but it just bounces off)

LUGNUT: Pft. Your firepower is no match for my might! (He prepares his Punch of Kill Everything)

BARRICADE: Huh? Um... Lugnut, I don't think--

LUGNUT: Silence, Barricade! This Autobot must learn not to mess with the Decepticons!

BARRICADE: But isn't it--

LUGNUT: Say your prayers, Auto--

(Optimus Prime comes out of nowhere and rams into him, knocking him off his feet.)

OPTIMUS PRIME: I think it's beast that you say yours.

(Bumblebee and Ratchet are also here.)

BARRICADE: Oh, this is just great.

IRONHIDE: Uh, thanks for the help, guys, but I didn't need it.

OPTIMUS PRIME: You know me, Ironhide. I always make sure you've got it handled.

BUMBLEBEE: I've got 'em both cuffed, boss-bot. Shall we take them to base? ['Bee is so badass he can just handcuff Lugnut like nobody's business]

OPTIMUS PRIME: I don't think so, 'Bee. I can't trust a bot like Lugnut in our HQ. Ratchet, contact Jetfire and see if he can transport them to Garrus Nine.

RATCHET: On it.

LUGNUT: Don't think it's over yet, Autobots! The Decepticons never lose a fight... without vengeance!

(Meanwhile, on the Nemesis)

VEHICON: Sir, we've lost contact with Lugnut.

STARSCREAM: Ugh! I can't leave anyone alone for less than five minutes!! Why, oh why, did I have to get a band of incompetent fools for a crew?

KNOCK OUT: I resent that, you know--

STARSCREAM: Silence! Imbeciles...

KNOCK OUT: What did I say?

STARSCREAM: Luckily, I have one last trick up my sleeve. Soundwave?

SOUNDWAVE: Yes?

STARSCREAM: Make contact with command on Cybertron. I have an old friend to speak with...

(On Cybertron, in the lair of the mysterious being known as Minion...)

MINION: Straxus, report.

STRAXUS: I've came, I've seen, I've conquered!

MINION: Excellent. Have the Autobots been destroyed?

STRAXUS: Nay, not yet, but thy Destructors shall see to it!

MINION: They should. Leader-1, out.

(He goes silent for a moment...)

VEHICON: My lord?

MINION: What is it?

VEHICON: Transmission from Commander Starscream.

MINION: Patch him through.

STARSCREAM: Ah, greetings, my old friend... I require some... assistance.

(Meanwhile, the Autobots aren't holding up so good to the 'Cons)

ULTRA MAGNUS: Autobots, retreat!

HOT ROD: He can't be serious.

SIDESWIPE: You know Magnus. He's always serious.

ULTRA MAGNUS: We can't hold up against those things much longer! Roll out!

STRAXUS: Ha! Ha! Good-bye, Autobots! Good-bye, fearful Autobots! Thou have done well, my friends. Ay, but although this battle has been won... the war goes on. Another task do I have for you.

DESTRUCTOR: Anything, master.

STRAXUS: Thou will each be given a certain number of Autobots to hunt for. Thou shalt return them here... and Project: Infiltration shalt commence!

(On Earth)

PROWL: Prime, I still don't see how this is a good idea... If Jetfire sends a team of Autobots here to Earth, they'll surely be detected by the Decepticons!

OPTIMUS PRIME: I'm aware of that, Prowl, but we'll have to take the risks. These two are too dangerous to let loose.

IRONHIDE: I don't see how. They weren't much of a problem for me...

OPTIMUS PRIME: Not now, Ironhide.

WHEELJACK: Just got word back from Jetfire. He says they're on their way!

(In space, on an Autobot ship)

KUP: Alright, bots, y'know the rules. Rule number one: You shall only refer to me as sir or Sarge. Rule number two: There'll be no disobeying orders. Or any disrespect to me. Or anyone else. And number three: The only butts you'll be kicking will be Decepticon butts. Understood?

BLURR: Yes, sir.

SPRINGER: Yup.

ARCEE: Yes.

FIRST AID: As always.

KUP: Good. Now let's make use of that last rule...

(Back on Cybertron)

MINION: What do you require from me, Starscream?

STARSCREAM: Well, Barricade and Lugnut have been capture by the Autobots, and so I need someone to free them.

MINION: I see. Fear not, Starscream. I shall have your lackies freed in no time.

STARSCREAM: Very good, Minion. Starscream out.

(Silence. A door opens behind Minion, revealing a trio of Decepticons)

MINION: I'm sure you know what your job is... don't you?

BLUDGEON: Oh... you have no idea!

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE, PART TWO

(On Earth, NEST soldiers are driving around in their buggies)

OPTIMUS PRIME (VO): NEST, this is Prime. Any Decepticon sightings?

SPIKE WITWICKY: None yet, boss-bot. Just a bunch of ruined buildings. Man, this war's done a toll on our planet.

SPARKPLUG WITWICKY: Got that right, son. That's why we're fighting for it.

SPIKE: I know that, Dad, but... when will it end? We've been fighting for ten years!

SPARKPLUG: It'll end when it ends, Spike. That's war for 'ya...

(Meanwhile, the Decepticons are out on patrol.)

BARRICADE: Have any of you spotted anything?

VEHICON: Negative, sir. No sign of any Autobots or the transmitter.

BARRICADE: Hn. Typical. Keep looking. I know it's nearby... I just know it!

(Back at Autobot Base)

WHEELJACK: Guys, I've got it! See? Easy as chrome-alloy pie!

(He turns on the monitor. It simply blasts with static)

WHEELJACK: Ugh. (He kicks it.) Stupid THING!

(It finally turns on and Jetfire's face appears)

JETFIRE: Huh? Optimus! What's up?

OPTIMUS PRIME: Jetfire, where's Ultra Magnus?

JETFIRE: He's at Polyhex fighting Straxus' forces. How's it going on Earth?

OPTIMUS PRIME: Same as usual. We've lost contact with the others though.

JETFIRE: Well, that stinks. I'll see what I can do.

OPTIMUS PRIME: Thanks, Jetfire.

(The call ends. Wheeljack looks on in disappointment)

WHEELJACK: That's IT?!

OPTIMUS PRIME: Quiet, Wheeljack.

(Meanwhile, back with NEST)

CHIP CHASE: Guys, I'm picking up something!

SPIKE: What is it, Chip?

CHIP: I'm seeing loads of Energon readings on my scanner... and they seem to be Decepticon signatures!

SPARKPLUG: Alright, guys! Get to your vehicles! We've got company!

(At that moment, Barricade and the Vehicons show up)

SPIKE: Oh no...

BARRICADE: Greetings, humans. My name is Barricade, Decepticon enforcer. As such, my duty is to enforce the will of Lord Megatron. So, without further ado...

(He draws his gun and fire. The NEST soldiers flee, but one of them gets blown up.)

DEDCLIFF: AGH!

SPIKE: Dedcliff!

SPARKPLUG: Keep running, Spike!

VEHICON: Ha ha! I haven't had this much fun since the Battle of Simtron Three!

???: Gee, your life must've been pretty boring...

VEHICON: Huh?

(Ironhide knocks him out)

IRONHIDE: I always thought the Battle of Simtron was kinda dull...

BARRICADE: Well, well, well... if it isn't the mighty Ironhide. I've been looking forward to meeting you.

IRONHIDE: Too bad I can't say likewise.

(Ironhide blasts another Vehicon. Barricade is unfazed.)

BARRICADE: Neat toy. Let me show you mine...

(He unfurls a chain flail and hurls it at Ironhide.)

IRONHIDE: Great spark!

(He grabs the end of the flail)

BARRICADE: Oh no. (Ironhide uses it to toss him aside) WAUGH!

IRONHIDE: Huh. Y'know, it's funny...

BARRICADE: Grr...

IRONHIDE: With all of the boasts I hear from you 'Cons... I thought you were made of sterner stuff!

(Barricade shoots him)

IRONHIDE: YOWZA! Not stern enough...

(He shots Barricade and takes him out)

BARRICADE: ARGH!

IRONHIDE: Prime, this is Ironhide. I've got a 'Con all round up for ya!

OPTIMUS PRIME: Good work, Ironhide. Ratchet, Bumblebee... let's roll out!

(On the Nemesis)

STARSCREAM: Well, it seems we've lost contact with Barricade. I'm sure you know what to do...

LUGNUT: Yes, Commander Starscream. (He transforms) The Autobot shall DIE!

(Back on Earth)

SPARKPLUG: Hey, big guy, thanks for the rescue!

IRONHIDE: Don't mention it, Major Witwicky. I do what I can. (Lugnut shows up and fires rockets at him) Aw, Primus! Now what?! (They explode and he shields his optics) Ah, scrapmetal.

LUGNUT: Autobot, prepare to face the wrath... of LUGNUT!

(On Cybertron, Ultra Magnus avoids a blast from Straxus)

STRAXUS: O, most troublesome Autobot! The fight's the thing, wherein I'll catch the spark of the king!

HOT ROD: Seriously, why's this guy quoting human literature? Seriously, it's disturbing.

SIDESWIPE: Tell me about it.

STRAXUS: O judgment! Thou art fled to brutish beasts! And bots have lost their region! (Ultra Magnus shoots at him but it bounces off) How many ages hence shall this our lofty scene be acted over? Cry "havoc" and let slip the dogs of war!

HOT ROD: Oh.

SIDESWIPE: Crud.

ULTRA MAGNUS: Wonderful.

(Giant dog-like Decepticons arrive and flank Straxus)

STRAXUS: Fair is foul... and foul is fair.

The Transformers: Redux, Issue 1: War of Two Worlds, Chapter One

Going through my old comics again. This series was written from 2012 to maybe early 2013.

This issue was made on May 9, 2012

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE, PART ONE

(We open with a montage of the Great War.)

NARRATOR: It has been decades since the Great War began. We have trying desperately to protect Earth from the Decepticon forces. It all started when Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, began scouring the galaxy for Energon to reenergize our dying world, Cybertron. He found Earth, which was rich in Energon, and began to drain its resources. Several teams of Autobots were then sent to stop the Decepticons. Thus, the Great War began. Ten years have passed since then. And there is still no end in sight...

(On Earth, Skywarp and Thundercracker patrol the skies in search of the Autobots, who are hiding in ruined buildings.)

THUNDERCRACKER: I'm not seeing any Autobots. What about you, Skywarp?

SKYWARP: Nothing here, Thundercracker. Looks like this area's clear.

WHEELJACK: That's right, little 'Cons, fly away!

BUMBLEBEE: Hey, Wheeljack! Did you find what you were looking for?

WHEELJACK: Yep. Let's head back to base.

(They transform and roll out.)

BUMBLEBEE: Good, because my olfactory sensors can't stand this place!

SKYWARP or THUNDERCRACKER: Your sensors aren't the only ones working!

BUMBLEBEE: Decepticons!

(The two Seekers attack them.)

WHEELJACK: Crud, I knew I should've brought those turbo boosts!

SKYWARP: Heh-heh-heh! (He teleports)

WHEELJACK: What was that all about--?

(Skywarp shows up in front of him.)

SFX: Scree!

SKYWARP: Hello, Autobot! Care to play?

SFX: Tink (Bumblebee shoots him)

SKYWARP: Oh, this is gold... (He transforms to jet mode) You can't take down Skywarp that easily, Autobrat!

(He fires at 'Bee only for Ironhide to show up and knock him out)

SKYWARP: Oh, snap...

IRONHIDE: Pick on someone yer own size.

WHEELJACK: Ouch. Um... thanks.

IRONHIDE: Don't mention it.

WHEELJACK: That was pretty--

IRONHIDE: I said "don't mention it."

(Back at Autobot Base)

WHEELJACK: We're back, Optimus!

OPTIMUS PRIME: Good to see you, Wheeljack. Did you find your... tool thing?

WHEELJACK: It's a tachyon transmitter. I stole it from an abandoned 'Con base. With this we can communicate with Cybertron easier.

PROWL: You sure that'll work? The 'Cons might pick up the signal.

WHEELJACK: Nonsense! I invented this thing! I know more about it than they do!

(Beat)

PROWL: Do you believe him?

OPTIMUS PRIME: No.

(Meanwhile, on the Decepticon ship...)

STARSCREAM: Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Five years... Five years it's been since our glorious leader vanished during the Battle of Helex... Since then, our leadership has been divided, with multiple commanders across the galaxy... But soon... that just might change. If Lord Megatron is not found within a month, then I shall have to take his place. The first one to find our leader will--

BARRICADE: Commander?

STARSCREAM: What is it, Barricade?

BARRICADE: I don't mean to interrupt, but we have received reports of a stolen tachyon transmitter.

STARSCREAM: What?! When was this reported?!

BARRICADE: Half and hour ago.

STARSCREAM: Why didn't you tell me?!

BARRICADE: You were too busy monologuing...

VEHICON: *Snicker*

STARSCREAM: SHUT UP!

VEHICON: I just made a little click noise!

STARSCREAM: Barricade, take a troop of Vehicons to Earth! We must get that transmitter! Before the Autobots can use it!

(Back at the Autobot Base)

OPTIMUS PRIME: How's it going, Wheeljack?

WHEELJACK: Great! ...As soon as I figure how this thing's supposed to work!

PROWL: So, in other words, 'not so great?'

WHEELJACK: Pretty much. Gee, sure wish we'd brought Blaster along...

PROWL: Actually, I'm glad we didn't...

OPTIMUS PRIME: Just keep working on it, Wheeljack. We'll get contact with Cybertron sooner or later...

(Meanwhile, on Cybertron, in Iacon...)

ULTRA MAGNUS: Jazz, this is Ultra Magnus. What's your status out there?

(In Polyhex...)

JAZZ: We're getting pinned here, boss! Not sure how much more we can take! Oh no...

ULTRA MAGNUS: What?

JAZZ: It's Straxus!

(Straxus shows up and maims an Autobot soldier)

AUTOBOT: P-please... have mercy!

STRAXUS: Fool... mercy is not dispensed here... only DEATH!

AUTOBOT: NOOOAGGH!

ULTRA MAGNUS: Jazz, get out of there now!

JAZZ: Yes, sir! (He transforms and drives away)

STRAXUS: To die... to sleep... to sleep, perchance to dream! Aye, there's the rub. [Yeah, Straxus is a Shakespeare enthusiast, get used to it] And to die, perchance to end thy suffering... now that seems better...

(He fires and knocks Jazz off course)

JAZZ: Whoa! Oogh...

STRAXUS: Thou wretched rash, intruding fool... FAREWELL!

ULTRA MAGNUS: Hey, Straxus... (He shows up with reinforcements) Pick on someone your own size!

Transformers Regenerated: Beyond Imagination II, Chapter Two

TWO: THINKING OUTSIDE THE QUESTION BOX

“You know what bugs me?”

Perceptor barely glanced at Brainstorm as he stepped around Expanse. The massive blue and yellow mech was standing as still as he possibly could, holding his arms out horizontally as the two Autobot scientists studied him. “What?”

“When I made a time machine to change history, I got reprimanded and punished for it—rightly so,” Brainstorm quickly added. “But lately, a whole bunch of other bots have been time traveling and dimension hopping, going to alternate realities and all that… and they don’t get so much as a slap on the servo.”

Unsure as to what the context behind this conversation was, Expanse glanced at Perceptor and saw that the Autobot scientist had a contemplative look on his face.

“I will admit, I have been rather… taken aback by recent developments,” Perceptor said. “Your time machine, regardless of what you attempted to do with it, was an impressive feat of technology—”

Brainstorm stopped what he was doing to look at him in surprise. “Impressive?”

“—and it has caused me to reconsider what I thought I knew or understood in regards to quantum mechanics. Just when I thought I had gotten a firm grasp on the concept again, we had the situation involving Dion, and then again with the duplicate of Bumblebee. And now, this.” Perceptor stepped away from Expanse, holding his chin as he studied the other mech. “I feel that there might be some sort of pattern here; that these phenomena are all connected in some way. But I am not yet comfortable with formulating any hypotheses.”

Brainstorm was still staring at Perceptor. “You… you thought my time machine was impressive?”

Perceptor seemed to disregard his partner’s question as he looked up at Expanse and gestured to the red X-marked orb in the center of his chest. “I take it that is your transwarp drive?”

“Yes,” Expanse replied. “Don’t ask me how they made it though; I can barely recall them installing it along with all of the other things they built into me.”

“Have you ever been able to jump to a different time period within the same universe?”

“I don’t know. The first time I used it was to escape from the Decepticons, which is how I ended up on Earth and met the X-Men… although I suppose that was a different Earth than the one you know. Then it somehow acted on its own and brought Sari and that mercenary to Mojo’s world. I’m… not sure what caused that to happen.”

“It could be they were somehow caught within subspace and it took you activating your drive again to bring them back,” Brainstorm suggested. “Did you ever use your Transwarp drive in between those two times?”

Expanse shook his head. “No. I kind of made it a point not to. My allies in the X-Men already had enough trouble with time travel and dimension hopping that I didn’t want to add to the headache. I mainly stayed in alt mode for most of our missions.”

“That would explain it then; if you had, then Sari and the bounty hunter would have been brought out of subspace at that time. Judging by the schematics, this Transwarp drive is an experimental one, likely more advanced than anything that would’ve been tested by either faction during the war. You first used it twenty-five years ago, correct?”

“Yes….”

“That would place its use—and potentially its development—during our false peace with the Decepticons.” Perceptor glanced at Brainstorm. “You would have still been operating as a double agent during this time, yes?”

Brainstorm winced. “Eeesh. Talk about opening up old wounds….”

“Did you have any idea about what the Decepticons were doing regarding this?” Perceptor glanced at Expanse’s Transwarp drive.

“Nope. Believe me, if I had, I would have been all over it. Guess there was some tech that no amount of intel would’ve been enough for them to just hand over to some random spy.”

Perceptor rubbed his chin. “A part of me is also wondering whether they even knew what it was they had developed; whether the ability to cross into different dimensions—different realities—was an intended feature of this particular model of Transwarp drive.”

“Too bad we’re on opposite sides with the Decepticons again so we can’t just like, you know, question them,” Brainstorm lamented. “Not that I think they would’ve been 100% honest with us anyway….”

Expanse glanced between the two Autobot scientists. “So… what now? What does this mean?”

“You let us worry about that,” Perceptor said. “We still need to go over our findings before we can formulate anything to present to the Primes.”

“Primes?”

“Ah, yes. Optimus is no longer the sole Prime; he is sharing that role with Cybertron’s current leader Rodimus. Of course, he insists on going by ‘Star Convoy,’ I believe…”

“…But no one’s gonna do that,” Brainstorm finished for him. “Look, just leave it to us and we’ll get things figured out. In the meantime, take some time relax and maybe introduce yourself to some of the others. I get the feeling you’re gonna be hanging around here for a while, so make yourself at home.”

“Right. ‘Home.’” Expanse frowned as he said the word. After everything he had been through, he wasn’t sure what the word even meant anymore. For the past twenty-five years, he had considered the X-Mansion to be his home, but that apparently was no longer the case. Perhaps it never had been. But if that was the case, then did he ever have a home?

The Academy hadn’t been home. The Decepticons certainly hadn’t given him one.

Only time would tell if the Autobots would provide him with the home he sought.

“So… have you been seeing anyone?”

Sari looked up at her father in surprise. Isaac Sumdac was laying on the hospital bed the Autobots had set up for him; thankfully none of the injuries he had sustained while in captivity actually required it, but it was the only thing they had for him to relax and rest on. He had his hands clasped over his admittedly plump stomach, his eyes focused on the television screen playing some old 80’s cop show rather than on his daughter.

“Where’s that coming from?” Sari asked.

Sumdac shrugged. “It’s been half a year. I wasn’t sure if—”

“Dad, I haven’t been back to university since you disappeared. I’ve been spending the last six months looking for you. I didn’t have time for relationships.”

“What about before then? You were always pretty brief in your letters about campus life; you always want to hear I’m doing but never willing to tell me how you’re doing.” Sumdac chuckled as he shook his head. “But anyway, you’ve mentioned some of your friends before and I was just curious if any of them were more than that.”

Sari snorted as she shook her head. “No. Jack is too aloof for me—plus I feel that he and Miko might have a thing, even though they both deny it. And Raf is nice and all, but seems to care more about his computer than anyone or thing. To be honest… I don’t think I’ve ever felt attraction for anyone. Not yet, anyway. Nothing real, at least.”

“Ah.” Sumdac nodded sagely. “And perhaps finding out you are not fully human also puts a damper on things.”

Sari closed her eyes as she sighed heavily. “So we’re having that conversation now, are we?”

“I figured it was past time we had it. I thought you would’ve wanted to—”

“Dad, I’ve already come to terms with it. Kind of.” She shook her head. “Look, I don’t even want to think about it right now. I’m just happy you’re safe and sound.”

“Actually, Professor Sumdac, I would be very much interested to hear the full story about your daughter’s origins.”

Both Sari and her father looked up to see Optimus Prime standing in the doorway to the room they were in. The Autobot leader stepped in and carefully got into a sitting position; he was still nowhere close to their eye level, but Sari understood the sentiment.

“Your daughter has already informed us of what she learned from your and Old Snake; about how you and your company were manipulated by Porter Powell to aid Cobra and its endeavors.” Optimus Prime then inclined his head. “However, I am more curious about your family’s involvement with a certain Scorponok.”

Sumdac’s face blanched. “You… you know of him?”

“Yes. Scorponok is a Decepticon, one that my Autobots and I have fought on more than one occasion during our first adventures here on Earth. Recently, when my chief engineer Wheeljack was trying to solve Sari’s origins, he discovered a connection between your father, Newton Sumdac, and Epsilon Holdings—a front for Scorponok’s organization Machination. Later on, we learned that Newton Sumdac was head of Project: Cadmus, which resulted in your daughter’s creation.”

Sumdac nodded slowly. “Yes, that is all correct. What more did you want to know?”

“How far back does your family’s connection to Scorponok and his operations go? And is your father still involved in any way?”

“Oh, I have not seen my father in years. He disappeared shortly after I took Sari under my care. I’m not sure if he would even still be alive—he would be nearing his nineties by this point.”

“If he has had access to Cybertronian technology, then age may be an inconsequential factor for him,” Optimus said. “And you did not answer my first question.”

“My father was never forthcoming on details regarding his life or career,” Sumdac admitted. “I didn’t even learn about Project: Cadmus or Machination until after I had graduated college and he brought me into the project.”

“Did you have any personal conversations with Scorponok?”

Sumdac considered the question. “No. The closest I came to speaking with him was through Abraham Dante, who I believe was his intermediary. Unless I am mistaken?”

“The term is as good as any,” Optimus replied. “Are there any other contributors to Project: Cadmus that you can name?”

“Oh, there were so many; I only became acquainted with a few. Dr. Brian Jones was one, Dr. Onishi another… they both left after Project: Cadmus’ completion, and as far as I know they no longer have any association with Machination. That I know of, of course….”

“Do you know the current whereabouts of Dr. Jones or Onishi?”

“Jones I am not sure, but I know Dr. Onishi is from Tokyo and I believe he still lives there with his wife and son. I do hope nothing bad has happened to them given their association with this Scorponok entity.”

“I can speak with the EDC and see if they will authorize a welfare check on Dr. Onishi and his family.” With that, the Autobot leader began to stand up. “Until then, Professor Sumdac, I thank you for your honesty and being open with your answers.”

Sumdac blinked as he slowly nodded. Sari figured her father was still trying to adjust to the fact he was speaking with an alien robot. “Um, of course. Any time.”

Optimus Prime nodded back to him before shifting his attention to Sari. “Ms. Sumdac, I am preparing another team to investigate any potential activities from Cobra or lingering Machination remnants, if you are interested.”

“Of course,” Sari said. “Just give me the call and I’ll be there.”

The Autobot leader nodded again in appreciation before taking his leave. Once he was gone, Sumdac looked to Sari with a bewildered look on his face.

“You have been quite busy since I’ve been gone, haven’t you?”

Sari smiled back at him. “You could say that.”

“Welcome back, my prehistoric friends! It is fruitful that fate has caused our paths to cross once more!”

“Oh, Primus,” Snarl groaned as the six Dinobots approached the awaiting Sky Lynx. “You sure we can’t use different transport?”

Grimlock ignored his fellow Dinobot’s complaints as he regarded the massive saurian Autobot Sky Lynx. As Transformers went, Sky Lynx was certainly one of the more unique and atypical in terms of body-types. If rumors and legends were to believed, Sky Lynx was old enough to remember the War of the Primes, having served in the tribe of Onyx Prime. After the departure of the Primes and the subsequent Galactus Crusades, Sky Lynx had went on to enjoy a reputable military career in the Primal Vanguard during the eras of Nova, Nominus, and Guardian Prime. However, when the Functionists rose to power, Sky Lynx foresaw the oppression they would bring to bots like him and departed for Eukaris, where he would remain until the Predacons took over, leading him back to the Autobots by the time the Great War broke out.

Because of this, it made sense that he would be chosen for this mission, beyond the fact that he had worked with the Dinobots before. If the Maximals had gone missing on this mysterious island, then it stood to reason that the Predacons may have had a part in this, and out of all the Autobots currently in service, Sky Lynx was the one who perhaps understood the Predacons the best.

Of course, that didn’t make his self-aggrandizing nature any less grating….

“Truly, you could not have picked a better means of transportation than yours truly,” Sky Lynx said as he lowered the ramp of his space shuttle form. “You should feel honored to be flying with such a distinguished flier; space bridges and Titans have nothing over one such as I!”

“Yeah, yeah,” Snarl groused. “Just get us there in one piece and you’ll get a pass in our books.”

As the Dinobots stepped into Sky Lynx’s interior, Grimlock took a moment to regard his teammates as they took their respective seats. It didn’t surprise him at all that Slash seemed to be the one with most cheer; in the century they had spent on Earth prior to being found by Optimus Prime and his crew, Slash had bonded with Sky Lynx, enraptured by any story he would regale her and Scorn with. She took a seat next to Swoop, who like Sky Lynx also had a distinguished (if not quite as long) military record that provided him with enough stories and wisdom to impart on the younger Dinobot.

Meanwhile, Sludge did his best to fit in the seat next to an irritated Snarl. The two were pretty much the opposite in terms of personality—Snarl being the loner that he was and Sludge being the second-nicest Dinobot after Swoop (third if you included Slash)—but Snarl tolerated Sludge’s presence the most if only because Sludge was better at being quiet, and didn’t butt heads with him nearly as much as he did with Slag… who was sitting alone, his back turned to everyone else.

There was an empty seat next to his, but Grimlock chose not to take it. The last thing he needed now was to start a ruckus inside Sky Lynx before they had even taken off. Whatever grievances Slag apparently had with him would have to be settled another time… if ever.

Instead, Grimlock simply remained standing as Sky Lynx began to lift off from from the landing pad and take off into the sky, heading in the direction of the mysterious island.

As Prowl stepped into Metroplex’s command center, he caught a glimpse of Sky Lynx’s alternate form flying up into the sky, disappearing into the clouds. Standing at the main station were Elita-One and Jetfire, the latter viewing a monitor that seemed to be tracking Sky Lynx’s trajectory. Nearby, Blaster was at his station monitoring communications.

“Would that be the Dinobots?” Prowl asked as he walked up to join the pair.

Elita acknowledged him with a glance. “Yes. We’re keeping an eye on them to make sure they don’t vanish like the Maximals have.”

Prowl nodded in response. He was about to say something in regards to the Dinobots’ destination, when his internal comlink suddenly chimed. He raised a hand to his helm to answer it, only to hear nothing on the other end.

“That’s strange,” he murmured, frowning.

Elita looked down at him. “What is it?”

“Someone tried to hail me but I didn’t hear anything.” Prowl’s frown deepened. “And they were using a frequency that only agents in the Secret Service use.”

“Are all of your agents accounted for?”

“I haven’t been able to access my files since I was brought back online; I don’t think Tarantulas managed to back those up. Hell, I only just recently learned about Getaway’s death….”

Elita raised an optic ridge. “Do you trust us enough to have us take a look at it and see if we can trace it?”

Prowl held her gaze evenly. “After everything we’ve been through? I’d be a fool not to.”

Elita proceeded to have Blaster get his station ready to receive the silent call Prowl had gotten. She and Prowl then joined the communications officer at his station as he worked on tracing it.

“Looks like a distress signal to me,” Blaster commented. “Triangulating its origin is pretty tricky, but I think… ah.”

“What is it?” Elita asked.

“It’s coming from the same direction that Sky Lynx is headed. Must be from the island.”

“It could be the Maximals calling for help,” Elita suggested.

“But how would they be using a frequency that only Autobot Secret Service agents can access?” asked Prowl.

Before anyone could propose an explanation, Jetfire looked up from his station, a grim look on his face.

“Elita,” he started to say.

Elita shuttered her optics. “Don’t tell me….”

“They’re gone. I’ve lost track of them.”

Prowl frowned. “Sky Lynx and the Dinobots?”

“This,” Elita said, “is a much bigger problem than I thought it was going to be.”
