Transformers Regenerated: Beyond Imagination II, Chapter Nine

NINE: FRIGHTENING IN THE DARK

 Predacon Fortress, Savage Land

Wheelie was used to sitting in cells. He was also used to breaking out of them.

As such, the moment his Predacon captors closed the door to his cell, he immediately began looking for a way out… and it wasn’t long before he found one. As he squeezed his small frame through the opening he had exposed by removing a loose stone in the wall, he could not help but lament the sheer easiness of his escape. He chalked it up to the fact that even his enemies underestimated and overlooked him in favor of locking down his much larger comrades.

He tried to force such thoughts out of his processor, at least for the time being. Now was not the time to dwell on his own insecurities and how others viewed him; he needed to find the Dinobots and release them so they could help the Maximals escape.

After crawling for a few minutes, Wheelie reached the other end of the small tunnel in the wall and emerged on the other side… only to find himself in another cell. Occupying it was a larger green mech, their armor plating indicating a vehicular alternate mode. Upon noticing Wheelie, the strange Autobot stirred where he sat.

“You’re not one of them,” he said quietly.

“No, I am an Autobot named Wheelie. I am looking for a way to roam about freely.”

The Autobot tilted his head, no doubt put off by Wheelie’s odd manner of speaking. Wheelie was used to such looks by this point.

After finally parsing the meaning of Wheelie’s words, the bot said, “Well, good luck with that. This place is riddled with ‘Cons. Even if we get out of this cell, they’ll be lurking around every corner.”

“My friends the Dinobots are nearby,” Wheelie said. “If we rescue them, we can turn the tide.”

“I’m sure we could, but finding them and getting to them would be a whole ‘nother thing.” The bot paused for a moment before looking back at Wheelie. “Did Prowl get my signal then?”

This time, it was Wheelie’s turn to look confused. “Prowl?”

“He sent you to find us, didn’t he? After getting my signal?”

“I know not of any signal. My friends and I have come here to aid the Maximals and solve the mystery of this island.”

“Oh.” The other Autobot frowned. “Well, better than nothing I suppose. I also need to find JP-Twelve, but I worry that the ‘Cons might’ve already killed him….”

“JP-Twelve?” Wheelie asked. “I might not be one to judge, but that name is one I would begrudge.”

The bot sighed. “It’s his codename, not his real name. Mine is JP93. Our real names are supposed to be classified… but I suppose at this point, it doesn’t matter anymore.” He extended a servo to Wheelie. “You can call me Paddock. My partner’s name is Wrangler.”

“Nice to make your acquaintance,” Wheelie said as he shook Paddock’s hand. “Now it is time to take a chance.”

“Wow, you’re really reaching with some of those rhymes,” Paddock muttered.

Ignoring the remark, Wheelie approached the door to the cell, inspecting it to see if there was some way either of them could bring it down. At that moment, the handle began to jiggle and he immediately took a step back. He frantically looked around the room for a hiding spot, only to find nothing of the sort. With no other option, he converted into his car mode and parked himself just behind Paddock, hoping to be out of sight to whatever Predacon entered the cell.

The door finally clicked and unlocked, swinging open wide. Standing there was no Predacon, but rather a silver and red Velociraptor.

“Hello, friend!” the Dinobot said cheerfully to a stunned Paddock.

“Slash?” Wheelie transformed back to robot mode and stepped around Paddock. “How… how did you get out?”

“Oh, hi, Wheelie!” Slash beamed at him. “These doors are pretty easy to break out of. I’ve been doing it ever since they first locked me up back on Eukaris. Even Ripclaw had hard time keeping me in one place!”

“So, how do you open the doors?” Paddock asked.

“With this!” Slash wiggled one of her claws.

Paddock smirked. “Clever girl.”

“Let us make haste then,” Wheelie said. “We must find the other Dinobots, and then we can free the Maximals.”

“I can sniff them out!” Slash said.

“Good. But Autobots beware; Predacons may be lurking who knows where.”

“Oh, right. You mean the guys that have been chasing me?”

Both Wheelie and Paddock blanched as they heard the angry cries of Predacon guards coming from down the corridor.

“We should probably get a move on,” Paddock suggested.

*  *  *

“THOSE FRAGGERS STOLE MY GLORY!”

Tyrannocon roared as she punched the wall with her right arm, leaving a massive crater in it. The impact of the blow caused the whole room to shake, sprinkling dust and pebbles from the ceiling onto the heads of the room’s occupants. It elicited a growl of annoyance from the purple and green Predacon bat hovering over his Autobot captive.

“Could you not be so loud?” Psychobat snarled. “I’m trying to concentrate.”

“Frag off, wings,” Tyrannocon snapped, spinning around and striking Psychobat with her arm-mounted tail. “You weren’t there! Victory was within my clutches and the Council just had to ruin it with their stupid bugs!”

Psychobat scowled as he got back to his feet. “Look, if you’re going to throw a tantrum, can you do it somewhere else? I’m trying to work on our patient here.”

“I’m not… telling you anything…” grunted the tan and black Autobot that was bolted down to a stone slab.

“Oh, you don’t need to tell me.” Psychobat grinned as needles extended from his fingers. “You just need to show me.”

Tyrannocon regarded the Predacon with disgust as he went to work on the Autobot prisoner. Some of the Predacons under her command had intercepted the Autobot while she had been leading the rest in the assault on the Maximal camp. Apparently, they had found the Autobot sneaking through the jungle and approaching some sort of strange facility to the southeast of the Predacons’ fortress. That would merit investigating at some point, but first Tyrannocon wanted to give the Tripredacus Council a piece of her mind for daring to interfere with her operation.

Leaving Psychobat to his devices, she stormed out of the room and marched straight for the Council’s chambers. She was about halfway there when she noticed several Predacons running past her, weapons at the ready as they turned the corner.

“What’s going on?” she asked.

“One of the prisoners has escaped,” replied Retrax. “I think it’s one of the Dinobots. The little one.”

“Of fragging course,” Tyrannocon growled. “Never leave a Waruder to do the work of a true Predacon.”

Without warning, she transformed to her beast mode, startling Retrax and the rest of his team.

“Lead me to them,” she snarled, “and I’ll show you how it’s done!”

*  *  *

None of the Dinobots had any idea where Razorclaw was leading them, nor did any of them dare to speak up to ask the Predacon leader. At various points along the way, they were joined by the rest of Razorclaw’s fellow Predacon warlords; first by Rampage and Divebomb, the latter whom exchanged a sneer with Swoop, and then by Headstrong and Tantrum. The ten of them continued on in silence, making their way through the maze of corridors that seemed to make up the Predacons’ fortress.

Decorating the stone walls were several strange symbols, resembling cyberglyphics. It was difficult to tell whether they were made by humans or some other lifeform. Indeed, the whole fortress felt too alien to be made by or for humans, yet there was no other explanation as to why it was here on Earth.

Apparently the curiosity was too much for Sludge to handle, as he ended up being the one to break the silence. “What is this place?”

While both Slag and Snarl glared at him, Razorclaw let out a hearty laugh. “I’m glad you finally asked! I’ve been wondering the same thing myself.”

“You mean you don’t know?” Swoop asked. “I thought it was your fortress.”

“Yes, but we were not the ones to discover it. That credit goes to the Tripredacus Council.”

A low rumble uttered from Grimlock’s vocal processor, unable to contain his own curiosity. “And just who are the Tripredacus Council?”

“Patience, my friend. You are about to meet them.”

Several minutes later, they finally reached the end of the corridor and stepped through a door into a large circular chamber. At the center of the room was some sort of bottomless chasm, and looking over the chasm was an elevated podium where three Predacons stood. All three wore ceremonial garb that hid their beast mode kibble, although from what little they showed, Grimlock discerned that two of them had insectoid alternate modes while the third transformed into some sort of crustacean.

Stepping forward, Razorclaw raised his arms to the Predacon trio. “Council, I bring to you the five that shall become one!”

“Excellent, Lord Razorclaw,” said the leftmost councilor, the one with the claws of a lobster. “We can at last begin.”

“Now wait just a slaggin’ minute!” said Snarl. “We’re not doing anything until we get some answers!”

“You are not obligated to receive any,” snapped the center councilor.

“Now, now, Ram Horn,” said the rightmost councilor. “Perhaps we can entertain them. After all, our future Beast King stands among them.”

Sludge looked confused. “Future Beast King? What are you talking about?”

The same councilor bowed his head. “How easily our history is forgotten. Of course, you hail from Cybertron and thus would not be privy to the knowledge of how the Kingdom of Eukaris first came to be.”

“Countless centuries ago,” began the leftmost councilor, “the world that would become known as Eukaris was discovered by our ancestor Onyx Prime, who ignited the hot spot of his Titan Chela to bring forth the first generation of Eukarians.” He gestured to the councilor opposite him, next to Ram Horn. “It was from this well that Elder Cicadacon emerged, and he would go on to bear witness to the history that unfolded.”

“Indeed, Sea Clamp. The first to lead us was the Beast King Volcanicus,” continued Cicadacon. “The mightiest of us all, he was unique in his ability to divide himself into three separate beast modes, each one representative of the various walks of Eukarian life. It was that demonstration of unity and power that earned him the mantle of ruler.”

“I thought Domitius Major was the first Beast King,” Swoop murmured.

Ram Horn snorted. “Classic revisionism by your Primes. When the War of the Primes broke out, Volcanicus naturally sided with Onyx Prime, and it was for that reason that the other Primes had him assassinated. His lieutenant Domitius thus sided with the victor of the war, and when Eukaris was recolonized by Nova Prime, Volcanicus was effectively erased from history as Domitius took his place in the history books.”

“But Domitius Major lacked the same strength as Volcanicus,” said Sea Clamp. “It was for that reason that the Fateweavers rightfully declared Volcanicus’s kin, Magmatron, to be the rightful heir to the throne, and thus he took it back from the pretender.”

Grimlock grunted. “So what does any of this have to do with us?”

Cicadacon smiled. “When Volcanicus fell, he was believed to have perished. However, the Fateweavers foretold in their web of prophecies that he would be reborn and one day return to Eukaris to reunite the warring clans. At first, I had believed this to refer to Magmatron, who indeed united us and even bore an appearance similar to Volcanicus. But ever since his death, I have come to interpret their prophecy… differently.”

Grimlock stared at the three councilors incredulously as he slowly picked up on the meaning of their words. “No. You’re crazy. I’m not some fraggin’ reincarnation of your made-up demigod.”

“Are you not?” asked Sea Clamp. “Then why else have you always been present for every major event of our people’s history within the last century? From fighting in the Beast Wars to the return and fall of Magmatron to even here and now, on a planet far from Eukaris… you have always been there.”

Slag sneered. “Yeah, ‘cos he’s an idiot who always wants to help these blasted Maximals even when they don’t deserve it! All of you beasts are always getting up to trouble and we’re always the ones who have to save you!”

“Exactly!” Cicadacon exclaimed. “It is not just Grimlock but all five of you so-called Dinobots. Clearly you are meant to be together… which can only mean that Volcanicus lives on through you as well!”

“Oh, give me a break,” Snarl muttered. “That’s the biggest load of claptrap I’ve heard in a while.”

Sea Clamp shrugged. “Perhaps it is, perhaps it isn’t. Ultimately, there is only one way to find out.” He gestured a claw to the central chasm. “This fortress, which we discovered in our exploration of this planet, contains strange and unusual powers; powers that are beyond even our understanding. What we do know is that it can grant the ability of combination. Observe.”

Suddenly, the three councilors doffed their ceremonial attire and joined hands. Parts shifted and rotated as the three of them merged together, creating a monstrous fusion that towered over the other occupants of the chamber. From its large white head, a purple glossa extended from its mouth and slithered.

“Behold… Tripredacus!” the bestial combiner roared, its voice a fusion of its three components. “And now… bring forth Volcanicus!”

“Oh, no!” Slag exclaimed. “Ain’t no way are we jumping into that pit!”

Without warning, Razorclaw and his four fellow Predacons transformed and merged as well, taking on the form of the titanic Predaking. With one fell swoop of his arm, the five Dinobots were knocked off their feet and sent plummeting into the chasm below….

*  *  *

“I heard someone go this way! Come on!”

Paddock winced to himself as he, Wheelie, and Slash ran through the corridors of the Predacon fortress, the hallways being too small and tight for either of the Autobots’ alternate modes. “I think they’re getting close,” he whispered. “We really need to pick up the pace!”

“Okay, okay. Here’s one!” Slash stopped at a cell door and picked the lock with her claw. It opened and a rhinoceros came barreling out. “Hi, Rhinox!”

The large Maximal snorted in acknowledgment. “Have you freed any of the others?”

“Not yet. Predacons are close behind.”

“I’ll hold them off for you. Try to free as many of them as you can!” With that, Rhinox went charging down the hall, heading in the direction of the approaching Predacons. He turned a corner and within minutes Paddock heard screaming as the rhinoceros trampled right through them.

“Come on, let’s hurry,” he urged the other two and they continued on their way. Slash occasionally stopped to open more cell doors, releasing the likes of Airazor, Cheetor, and Rattrap. Before long, a war was brewing in the hallways as Maximal clashed with Predacon.

As they turned a corner, the trio was forced to come to an abrupt halt as they came face to face with three Predacons. Paddock recognized their leader as the one called Dinobot, who carried a spinning blade in his hand. With him was a stocky purple Predacon with thick armor and a green floating wasp.

“Well, well,” Dinobot said with a grin. “Look what we have here.”

“I call dibs on the orange one,” said the purple Predacon.

“Oooh! Wazzpinator looks forward to finally blowing up some Autobots!” chimed in the green wasp.

“Scrap,” Paddock muttered. “Let’s double back.”

He turned to head back down the hallway only for a massive Tyrannosaurus rex to appear, stomping in from around the corner. Upon seeing the three Autobots, a sinister grin crossed the dinosaur’s features.

“There you are,” Tyrannocon chuckled. “Looks like fun time is over.”

Paddock drew his blaster as he stepped in between the Predacon and his two comrades. “Get behind me,” he said to Wheelie and Slash. “I’ll hold her off.”

“And what about the other three?” asked Slash.

“Uh, see if you can deal with them, I guess.”

Dinobot snorted. “This is hardly a fair fight, Tyrannocon. We already outnumber them; there is no need to bring your might into this.”

Tyrannocon snarled. “Slag off, Dinobot. I’ve already been robbed of my glory. Don’t take the fun out of this for me!”

“This isn’t about fun,” Dinobot snapped. “You speak of glory, yet there is no honor in the glory that you seek!”

“Who cares about honor? I just wanna tear these Autobots to shreds!”

With a thunderous roar, Tyrannocon lunged at Paddock, jaws snapping. The Autobot agent fired his gun, managing to hit the T-rex in the nose, which only served to further infuriate the Predacon. Tyrannocon then swung her body around and her tail struck Paddock in the chest, sending him flying off his feet and knocking him into Wheelie and Slash. As the three Autobots fell to the ground, Tyrannocon transformed to her robot mode and aimed her tail cannon at the fallen trio.

“I already tire of this,” the Predacon roared. “Say hello to your maker for me!”

“Wait!” Dinobot stepped forward. “They are already beaten! Let us just take them back to their cells!”

“So they can escape again? I don’t think so.”

“The Tripredacus Council wants them kept alive. If they wanted them dead, they would have ordered it.”

“I am past caring about what the Council thinks.”

With a snarl, Dinobot charged forward and threw himself at Tyrannocon. Knocked off balance, Tyrannocon fired her cannon and the plasma bolt ended up flying over the three Autobots and went straight towards Waspinator, whose body exploded upon impact.

“Noooo! Why universe hate—”

The rest of the hapless Predacon’s words were drowned out by the deafening roar that Tyrannocon let out as she grabbed Dinobot and threw him off of her, sending him crashing into Skold.

“TRAITOR! I will make sure the Council has your head as well for daring to interfere with the execution of the enemy!”

Dinobot responded by transforming into his beast mode and pouncing again at his fellow Predacon, who converted to her alternate mode as well. As the two dinosaurs clashed, Paddock pulled himself back to his feet and helped Wheelie and Slash back at up.

“Come on. Let’s get a move on while they’re distracted.”

“Our journey may already be coming to an end, I fear,” Wheelie said ominously. “Something terrible draws near.”

Paddock frowned. “What makes you say that?”

It was only when he spoke the words that he realized something: the floor beneath them was shaking. Even the walls were trembling, with pebbles of stone dropping onto their heads… and it was not just because of the two Predacons fighting behind them.

Getting down onto one knee, Paddock placed a servo on the floor and used his sensors to analyze the vibrations that were coming from them in order to determine where they were coming from. When he was done, he looked up at Wheelie and Slash with a concerned expression.

“What is it?” Wheelie asked, forgoing his usual manner of speech. “Is the fortress coming down?”

“No,” Paddock said. “It’s going up.”

Transformers Regenerated: Beyond Imagination II, Chapter Eight

EIGHT: THE RENEGADE WHO HAD IT MADE

 Cybertron, thousands of years ago

“Waruders?”

“It’s Old Destron for ‘evil invader,’” Delta Magnus explained. He stood opposite Grimlock and his team of Dynobots at the meeting table, separated by a holographic display of various insectoid Transformers. “According to antique records, they were a splinter faction of one of the Thirteen Tribes and frequently clashed with the Diaclona Tribe until they were driven away by Nova Prime.”

Snarl snorted dismissively. “That’s a story for protoforms. What are they really?”

“Right now, they are a force to be reckoned with, and the Decepticons are using them to bolster their forces.” Delta Magnus frowned. “Although I’m afraid that they won’t be able to control them for long. Waruders aren’t known for following orders that don’t come from their king.”

“These things have a king?” asked Sludge.

“Yes, the King Waruder, although sightings of him have been rare.” Delta Magnus pressed a button on the meeting table and the hologram changed to show a map of Cybertron. “Right now, the largest concentration of Waruder activity is in the Simfur region. Our analysts suspect that their nest could be located somewhere there.”

Swoop nudged Grimlock with his elbow. “Hey, that’s your home turf isn’t it?”

Grimlock merely grunted in response.

The hologram dissipated and Delta Magnus placed his arms behind his back. “I wouldn’t have selected your for this mission if I didn’t have complete confidence that you would be able to perform it efficiently. You Dynobots have received many commendations from two past Primes, and Sentinel Prime has full faith that you will succeed in this task.”

Slag pounded his fists together. “Just point us to the target, and we’ll blow it up!”

A faint smile crossed Delta Magnus’ face. “That’s the idea. Any questions before we send you out?”

“Just one,” Grimlock said. “Will we get seconds?”

Savage Land, now

The memory faded as Grimlock felt himself return to consciousness. As his visual sensors came back online, he quickly found that he was no longer at the Maximal camp but was instead in some sort of dark, dingy room. Almost like a cell. In fact, that was probably what it was.

The last thing he remembered were the Waruders descending down on the camp, and he could still hear their incessant buzzing playing over and over again in his head. He remembered being so confident during the First War that the Waruders would be useless cannon fodder that he and his Dynobots could easily shred through at the time. Little did they know…

A groan from the side caused him to notice that he was not alone in the cell. The other four Dinobots were also present, including Swoop who was still mending from his wounds. There was no sign of Slash, or Wheelie for that matter, let alone any of the Maximals.

“Where… where are we?” asked Sludge.

“In a cell,” grunted Snarl.

“I can see that, but where is this cell?”

“Two guesses, and either one of them end with ‘-Con.’”

“Quiet,” Swoop murmured. “I hear someone coming….”

Seconds later, a steel door creaked open and Grimlock looked up to see a black and orange mech enter the room. The metallic visage of a lion was prominently displayed on their chestplate, and the familiar voice that emitted from his vocoder immediately gave away the Predacon’s identity.

“Ah, finally awake, are we?” Razorclaw said. “Good. We can begin the procedure.”

“Razorclaw?” Grimlock grunted. “What… what are you doing here?”

Razorclaw chuckled. “Why so surprised? You do realize where you are, don’t you?”

“Maximals told us that the Predacons were being led by something called the Tripredacus Council….”

“Well, yes, they are,” Razorclaw replied. “Technically, our presence here is… need to know. The Tripredacus Council runs things while we focus on more… personal endeavors.”

“Stop talking riddles,” Slag snapped. “Would rather fight you than listen to you blabber.”

“Oh, there’ll be plenty of time for that. But first… I had something else in mind for the five of you.”

“Not interested,” Grimlock snarled.

“I think you will be.” Razorclaw’s voice took on a darker tone as he unsheathed a golden sword. “Because if not, then I will gladly execute every last Autobot and Maximal that we have captured… and their energon will be on your hands, Grimlock.”

“Don’t listen to him, Grim’,” said Slag. “Just trying to intimidate you.”

Grimlock ignored him, instead staring at the Predacon leader. After a moment, he hung his head low. “Fine. What do you want from us?”

“I swear to fraggin’ God…” Slag mumbled under his breath, shaking his head.

Razorclaw seemed to grin behind his faceplate as he sheathed his sword. “Follow me. I have something to show you.”

Hoover Dam

“There he is. It looks like Shatter’s report indeed checked out.”

“Uh-huh.”

Nightbird’s unenthusiastic response did little to damper Bug Bite’s own high spirits. Disregarding the small humans that were scurrying to find some cover, the white-plated mercenary stepped towards the remains of the false Megatron that had been secretly discovered by Shatter and Dropkick thirty years ago. His time in the Decepticon Secret Service and later the Secret Order had made him privy to such classified records… and it was because of those records that he knew the exact extent of the false Megatron’s damage and just how much of him was salvageable.

Approaching the ruined disembodied head of the faux Decepticon leader, Bug Bite analyzed it for a bit until he found an exposed access port that led directly into its main processor. Producing a small tube-shaped device, he inserted it directly into the hole and switched it on, beginning the uploading process. As soon as he did so, the eyes of the disembodied head came to life.

“…am… Megatron. I… am… Megatron.”

Bug Bite chuckled. “If only that were the case. I’m afraid you’ve been lied to, my friend.”

“Lied to… no… Prime… must kill… Optimus Prime…”

“Should everything go as planned, you just might get a chance to do so. But right now, I need you to fulfill a different purpose.”

“Serve… no one… I… am… Mega…”

The faux Decepticon’s words trailed off as his eyes shut off for good. The upload process complete, Bug Bite removed the device from the disembodied head and stored it away.

“There. That wasn’t so difficult, was it?”

Nightbird stared at him with an impassive expression. “I hope you know what you’re doing.”

“Trust me. This has all been in the works for a very long time. I wouldn’t be doing any of this if I didn’t have any confidence that it would succeed.”

Nightbird sniffed dismissively. “Whatever. Can we return to the Fool’s Errand now? Doubledealer’s sure to have noticed our absence by now.”

“You and Mudflap are free to orbital jump back to the ship.” Bug Bite grinned. “I have my own means of transportation now.”

Nightbird’s optics narrowed. “You’re bailing out on us, aren’t you?”

Bug Bite shrugged. “I wouldn’t use those exact words. My allegiance with Doubledealer and his mercenaries has always been more of a… business expenditure in my eyes. One that has come to its natural conclusion.”

“Doubledealer won’t see it that way.” Nightbird unsheathed an energy sword. “Neither do I.”

Bug Bite sighed. “I was afraid it would come to this.”

Brandishing his cerebro device, he fired a shell straight at Nightbird’s cranium. The Cyber-Ninja deftly blocked it with her sword, burning it to ash with its flame. In the second it took for her to make that move, Bug Bite transformed into his alternate mode and drove straight into her legs, knocking her off her feet as he sped out of the chamber. As soon as she recovered, Nightbird converted into a sleek silver car and sped after the renegade mercenary.

As soon as the two were gone, Agent Simmons and Captain Lennox emerged from their hiding spot along with the rest of Lennox’s team. The two men exchanged grim looks as they looked to the dormant head of the false Megatron to where the two robots had driven out of the room.

“This is bad,” Lennox said.

“Yup,” Simmons replied.

*  *  *

Bumblebee could only drive out of the GroundBridge so fast. The first thing he saw was Prowl laying on the ground, bound up in some sort of energy chain, and a dormant Optimus Prime in alternate mode. Then, he saw a small white car—not to dissimilar from his old body—driving out of the entrance to Hoover Dam, followed closely by a sleek silver car. They did not look like any Autobots he recognized, and the black emblem resembled that of the one worn by the Mercenaries Kup had described from his adventures on Planet X.

Transforming to robot mode, Bumblebee deployed his stingers and began firing at the two mercenaries. The silver one broke off and drove towards him, converting to robot mode and launching herself at him in a jumping kick. Her foot made contact with his chestplate and he fell backwards to the ground. The silver femme then crouched down so that her purple faceplate was inches away from his.

“Stay out of this, Autobot,” she hissed before launching off of him and running after the white car, which was headed straight for a stationary Expanse.

As Bumblebee struggled to get back up, he saw Optimus stir and transform out of his truck mode, having finally broken free of whatever mode lock he had been placed under. Missing the white car as it drove past him, he set his sights on the silver femme and moved to intercept her, swinging an arm which she narrowly avoided.

“You fools!” the ninja mercenary snapped. “Don’t you get what he’s about to do?”

Confused, Optimus looked over to see that the white car had already made it to Expanse, converting to robot mode so he could climb atop of the blue jet. The Autobot leader started to move towards them, but Bumblebee could tell that it was already too late. Within seconds, an aura of energy began to glow around Expanse and his hijacker, and in a flash of light both were gone.

“Figures,” the silver femme muttered. “I suppose that’s my cue.”

She pressed a button on her wrist and Bumblebee was forced to shutter his optics as a flash of light surrounded her. After the light had receded, the mercenary was nowhere to be found, leaving only him, Optimus, and Prowl.

“Seems like everyone is doing orbital jumps these days,” Bumblebee muttered.

While the yellow Autobot rushed over to Prowl to free him from his bindings, Optimus raised a hand to his communicator. “Wheeljack, we just lost Expanse. Is there any way you, Perceptor, or Brainstorm can track him and find out where he went?”

“It’ll take some time, and I can’t promise anything,” Wheeljack replied over the radio. “Why? What just happened?”

“He’s been abducted by some mercenaries, who also might have done something with the false Megatron in Hoover Dam. One of them just made an orbital jump, which might mean their ship is in Earth’s orbit. See if you can find anything there as well.”

“Already on it.”

After ending the call with Wheeljack, Optimus turned over to Bumblebee and Prowl, the latter who had finally been freed from the energy chains. “Summon the rest of the team, and then open a GroundBridge to the Ark’s location in Oregon.”

Bumblebee gave him a confused look. “The Ark? Why there?”

“Knowing what Expanse is capable of, I have a hunch as to what this mercenary could be planning to do with him,” Optimus replied. “And I want to stop him while we still have a chance.”

The Fool’s Fortune

“There you are!” Doubledealer snapped as Nightbird materialized onto the bridge of the Fool’s Errand, primary ship of the Mercenaries. “What the frag were you guys doing down there? And where’s Bug Bite and Mudflap?”

“Forget about Mudflap,” Nightbird said. “Bug Bite’s escaped with his prize.”

Doubledealer scowled. “Prize? What prize?”

“No time to explain.” Nightbird shoved past him and stormed over to Exhaust, who was relaxing at the ship’s controls. “How quickly can you get us back to Elpasos?”

“Elpasos?” Exhaust chewed on the cy-gar hanging from his mouth. “Why there?”

“We need to find Death’s Head again. He’s the only one who can—”

“Oh no!” Doubledealer said. “No way in hell am I dealing with that bucket of bolts again! We still haven’t even met with our client here on this mudball!”

Nightbird glared at him. “Your precious client is the least of your concerns right now. Set a course back to Elpasos now or else we’ll all be slagged!”

Doubledealer scowled and looked as if he was about to retort again when Detritus spoke up from his station.

“Uh, this might not be a good time,” the Junkion mercenary said. “But we’re getting a call from our employer.”

Doubledealer whirled around, his anger replaced with anxiousness. “Oh, frag. Not now of all times…” After rapping his helm with his fist, he then let out a heavy sigh. “Fine. Put him on.”

Detritus did so and within moments the visual of a Quintesson Judge appeared on the ship’s main viewscreen.

“Deseeus,” Doubledealer said, trying to keep his voice from betraying his nervousness. “What can I do for you?”

The Quintesson’s carapace rotated to place his dour face of Judgment front and center. “It has been a while since I last heard from you, Doubledealer. I trust that you are not bailing out on your duties like you did back at Planet X.”

Doubledealer smiled weakly. “Of course not. That was a miscalculation on my part. I simply thought that the presence of two Titans meant that the situation on the planet was… no longer under our control. After all, as capable and competent as my mercenaries and I are, Titans are way out of our area of expertise.”

Deseeus spun to reveal his grinning face, letting out a hearty belt of laughter. “Ah, but of course! I understand completely. Fortunately, we were able to evacuate most of our numbers from the planet in time, save for the few that unfortunately perished in the prisoners’ breakout. We have been spending the last several months plotting out our next course of action… which is where you come into play.”

Doubledealer frowned. “And how is that?”

“I have recently made an agreement with another one of our… employees, to use a term you are familiar with. You will be working with him very closely for your next job; a job for which he will provide you with the details.”

“And who is this other ‘employee?’” Doubledealer asked.

“Why don’t you ask him yourself?”

A gasp from Detritus caused Doubledealer to turn around, and he instantly froze. Standing there at the other side of the bridge was a mech in black and teal armor plating, bearing a design that was strikingly similar to that of the Autobot leader Optimus Prime. In his hands was a red glowing sword, which the mysterious mech had pointing towards the ground.

“Who… who the frag are you?” Exhaust asked.

“I have gone by more than a couple of names,” the mysterious mech said. “But for the purposes of our alliance… you can call me Scourge.”

On the viewscreen, Deseeus’s body rotated to show the face of Death. “I trust that you will all be able to get along,” the Quintesson Judge said darkly. “It will be most important for the job I have for you all….”

The Transformers: Redux, Issue 47: Matrix Quest, Chapter Eleven

This is the last completed issue of Redux, although it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger.

    Date: 12/10/2012

END OF THE ROAD, PART 2

JAZZ: (Narration) Have you ever had that feeling when, no matter what you did, no matter how much you tried, it just never seemed anything went right? I have. It's a really bad feeling.

    (Menasor grabs Windcharger)

    WINDCHARGER: AHH!

    HOT ROD: Windcharger!

    WINDCHARGER: No! Please! Don't--

(Menasor gets shot in the arm)

    MENASOR: RRRARGH!

    HOT ROD: What the--?

    JAZZ: (Narration) But sometimes...

OVERRIDE: Well, don't just stand there... (She flies in with reinforcements) Give him what he deserves!

    JAZZ: Override?!

JAZZ: (Narration) ...Things take a turn for the better.

    BLURR: That's... unexpected.

    SWERVE: But totally awesome!

JAZZ: You heard her, Autobots. Fire!

    MENASOR: RARRRGH!

    (Meanwhile...)

ARMORHIDE: Evac, this is Armorhide! Another 'Con just broke through the cargo hold!

EVAC: Hang in there, Armorhide! Prowl, can you pilot the ship?

    PROWL: Sure can.

EVAC: Alright, you two. Let's go! Optimus, how's it going down there?

OPTIMUS PRIME: One the scale of one to ten? Zero.

LUGNUT: Prepare for your annihilation, Autobots!

    (Elsewhere...)

    SOUNDWAVE: Slick, status report.

SLICK: We're still drilling through the crater, Soundwave. Progress is a little slow.

SOUNDWAVE: Make it faster. The Autobots will soon figure out that we are stalling.

LASERBEAK: Why don't you just have Lugnut use his POKE, destroy the Autobots, and be done with it?

    SOUNDWAVE: ...

    RAVAGE: Duh moment.

    SOUNDWAVE: Lugnut.

    LUGNUT: Yes, Soundwave?

SOUNDWAVE: We must quicken our progress. Eradicate the Autobots at once.

    LUGNUT: With pleasure.

OPTIMUS PRIME: Oh no... GET DOWN!

(Lugnut delivers his punch, blasting a hole through Evac's ship that sends people flying out)

SKYWARP: Gee, he could've given us a warning!

    SFX: THOOM!

EVAC: Optimus! What happened?! Optimus? Optimus!

    (Velocitron...)

BLURR: This really isn't going anywhere, is it?

VELOCITRONIAN: Our weapons have no effect on him!

JAZZ: Windcharger! Do you still have the Matrix shard?

    WINDCHARGER: Um... yeah?

JAZZ: I want you to get up close to that giant and throw it into his mouth.

WINDCHARGER: Uh... wouldn't that be, y'know, bad?

    JAZZ: Just do it.

WINDCHARGER: Okay... I hope you know what I'm doing.

MENASOR: RARGH! Nothing can stop Menasor!

JAZZ: We'll see about that. (He readies a thermal detonator)

WINDCHARGER: Hey, ugly! Yo! Over here!

    MENASOR: Grrr...

WINDCHARGER: Open wide for me, fella! C'mon! Be brave! (Menasor opens his mouth) Good boy! Okay, time for your medicine!

JAZZ: Yah! (He tosses the detonator into Menasor's open mouth) Windcharger! Get out of there!

WINDCHARGER: Don't need to tell me twice!

MENASOR: RRRGH! No! I--we--are Menasor! We can't end like this! No! No! NO! NOOO-- (He blows up)

    WINDCHARGER: Whoa.

HOT ROD: Why didn't you think of that sooner?

JAZZ: It's all part of being a special ops agent.

SWERVE: Does that make sense to you?

    BLURR: Nope.

JAZZ: Thank you for the assistance, Override.

OVERRIDE: It's been my pleasure, Autobot Jazz.

JAZZ: And thanks, Brakedown, for the shard.

    BRAKEDOWN: Don't mention it.

JAZZ: Blurr, contact Optimus and then Magnus that we've found the shard on Velocitron. One down... three to go!

    (The Moon)

SLICK: Soundwave! I think we've found something!

RUMBLE: PULLLL! (He pulls out a blue Matrix shard)

SOUNDWAVE: Excellent... Lugnut, it is time to leave.

    LUGNUT: Very well.

OPTIMUS PRIME: Wha-- what's going on?

LUGNUT: Like I'd tell you. Our victory is at hand!

    VECTOR PRIME: Stop right there!

SOUNDWAVE: Vector Prime. I've heard of you. Let us see if your reputation precedes you.

VECTOR PRIME: I cannot let you take that Matrix shard!

SOUNDWAVE: And why not? Why is it you Autobots are after these shards?

VECTOR PRIME: Because if they're not reunited in time, the universe will be in danger.

SOUNDWAVE: Ah, yes. I've been told as much by an accomplice of mine. Why should I believe any of it?

VECTOR PRIME: I know you, Soundwave. You don't believe in anything, except in pure logic.

SOUNDWAVE: You have me confused with someone else; I live by facts, which can vary in how logical it is. Now, answer my question.

VECTOR PRIME: I'm not sure I can do so in words you will understand. So instead, I will show you.

SOUNDWAVE: What the-- (He gets shown a vision) Five planets... five shards... a ruler crazed with power... doom on Cybertron... harbingers of the end... and then... (vision ends) the Chaos Bringer.

    VECTOR PRIME: Yes.

SOUNDWAVE: I thought he was a myth.

    VECTOR PRIME: You thought wrong.

SOUNDWAVE: I suppose you are right. The shards must be united, instead of being used for my intent. But I will be the one to unite them. (He shoots Vector before driving off) Skywarp, prepare to take off... Set a course for Gigantion. We have won this battle.

(The Decepticons leave, with the Autobots left stranded on the moon)

TO BE CONCLUDED [Except not really because this is it]
