4-5 ABY
After the Battle if Endor, which saw the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, the Galactic Empire was left scattered. Although many Grand Moffs, admirals, and warlords claimed leadership, the most recognized successor of Palpatine was Grand Vizier Sate Pestage.
The newly-founded New Republic continued to fight against the Empire and its multiple rulers, which included Director Ysanne Isard, Lord Shadowspawn, Trioculus, and Zsinj. Eventually, Pestage is assassinated on his home planet of Ciutric IV, Isard is captured and later executed for her war crimes, Shadowspawn goes MIA, and the rest are either killed or captured as well. The remnants of the Empire is left in the hands of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

After many defeats, Thrawn takes the Empire's remnants and retreat to various places across the galaxy, mainly in the Outer Rim regions and the Deep Core. On the planet Byss, Thrawn discovers a clone of Emperor Palpatine, who had retaken his Sith name of Darth Sidious. The emperor reforms the Galactic Empire into the Dark Empire, which, unbeknownst to him, is secretly being orchestrated by Finis Valorum, who is under the alias of Atha Prime, and Darth Vorath, the new Dark Lord of the Sith.
Meanwhile, in 7 ABY, Luke Skywalker rebuilds the Jedi Order, having begun training an apprentice, Toah Jarsan, and making contact with several survivors of the Great Jedi Purge, including Jedi Master Xanus Baran and Aqinos. On Yavin 4, Luke establishes a Jedi Praxeum, which would serve as the New Jedi Order's headquarters for the next twenty years.

Three years after its founding, the Dark Empire began its first move. Darth Sidious instructed Supreme Commander Thrawn to carry out a campaign against the New Republic. The conflict shortly ended, but the Republic remained weary of the Empire.
Meanwhile, Jacen and Jaina Solo, future Jedi Knights, were born to Han and Leia Organa Solo.

Shortly after the Thrawn's campaign, the Dark Empire fully revealed itself by sending the World Devastators to Had Abbadon. Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker encountered the clone Palpatine, who later revealed himself to Han, Leia, and Toah. After three years of a false calm, the Galactic Civil War took a new turn.
At the same time, Thrawn and his forces attacked Coruscant. However, the battle was short, for the Supreme Commander realized that Darth Sidious was planning to get rid of the old Imperials and ordered a retreat to the Unknown Regions. They arrived at Dromund Kaas, where Emperor Espaa Valorum offered them to join his Crimson Empire, which was also being secretly controlled by Darth Vorath.

During a battle at Empress Teta, Darth Sidious unveils the Galaxy Gun, which destroys Empress Teta, as well as a majority of the Republic's forces, including Supreme Commander Gial Ackbar. Shortly after however, Sidious is assassinated by Darth Vorath and Atha Prime. Once the news is revealed across the galaxy, the rest of the Dark Empire retreats from Byss to Bastion, thereby ending the Galactic Civil War.
In the aftermath, Chief of State Mon Mothma retires, and Senator Jenssar SoBilles of Duro is elected to replace her.
A few months later, after Luke Skywalker returns to the Jedi Praxeum after his adventure in the realm of Praetus, young Jedi Kyp Durron is possessed by the ancient Dark Lord Exar Kun. After a brief conflict, Kun leaves Durron's body, and is forced to remain in his tomb on Yavin 4 forever.

Darth Vorath secretly began to sow the seeds necessary for his ultimate plan. He corrupted a young Jedi named Dolph, who took on the name Kueller and started the Almanian Uprising. After an agent of his went to the Outer Rim to delay the Yuuzhan Vong's invasion, the Crimson Empire came out of hiding and brought an end to the Republic's decade of peace. While Espaa Valorum is killed on Dromund Kaas, so that Vorath could become the Empire's public ruler, Atha Prime went to Coruscant and assassinated Chief of State SoBilles, declaring himself to be Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum.
With both the Republic and the Empire under Vorath's control, the Imperial Sith War began.
26 ABY
After many victories at worlds such as Dac and Geonosis, the Empire then headed for Coruscant, sending out its entire fleet and army.
During the battle of Coruscant, the Republic suffered many losses, most of it being caused by the Beast Lord Kal-Teraz. However, with the help of the Mandalorians and Gilad Pellaeon's defecting Imperials, Darth Vorath and Finis Valorum were killed, and the Empire was finished.
After temporarily switching their capital to Corellia, the Republic and the Imperial Remnant were reformed into the Galactic Alliance, headed by a triumvirate consisting of Chief of State Leia Organa Solo, Supreme Commander Wedge Antilles, and Imperial Head of State Gilad Pellaeon. With the Imperial Sith War ended, a new age of peace had begun for the galaxy.
